Additional Library Search - Ex Libris Summon

Additional Library Search seamlessly brings your library to your patrons' workflow, displaying your discovery layer alongside Google or Google Scholar search results. This support article details how to enable Additional Library Search for Ex Libris Summon users.

Prerequisites

Setting up Additional Library Search should take no more than 10 minutes. To complete this task, you will need:

Preparing your links

Before setting up Additional Library Search, it will be necessary to create some custom links to add to your settings. The process of doing this is straightforward and detailed below.

Source URL

The default value should be:

https://api.summon.serialssolutions.com/2.0.0/search?s.q=[search_query]

View more link

The view more link will direct patrons through to your discovery layer's results page to view all the results for the keyword you searched. To configure this URL, you need to replace the {ACCESS_ID} parameter below with your institution's Summon Access ID as indicated below: 

https://{ACCESS_ID}.summon.serialssolutions.com/search?q=[search_query]

Document link

The Document link allows patrons to click directly through to the resource from the Additional Library Search panel. Use the same approach and replace the {ACCESS_ID} parameter as shown below:

https://{ACCESS_ID}.summon.serialssolutions.com/search/document?id=[document_id]

Access ID

Enter your Summon {ACCESS_ID} in this field.

Secret Key

Enter your Summon Secret key in this field. 

Set-Up

  1. To begin set-up, log in to your Lean Library Dashboard. Navigate to the Lean Library Futures area and select Additional Library Search.
  2. Click New Library Search.
  3. Select ExLibrisSummon.
  4. Add the Source URL, View more link and Document link you have already prepared.
  5. Add the {ACCESS_ID} and the Secret key in the relevant fields.
  6. Select whether you want the Additional Library search to appear on Google and/or Google Scholar.
  7. Save your settings.

Once you have saved your settings, the changes will typically take effect right away within the extension. If they don’t appear immediately, please allow 3–4 hours for the update to process before reaching out to our Support team.
