Additional Library Search seamlessly brings your library to your patrons' workflow, displaying your discovery layer alongside Google or Google Scholar search results. This support article details how to enable Additional Library Search for ExLibris Primo users.
Prerequisites
Setting up Additional Library Search should take no more than 10 minutes. To complete this task, you will need:
- Access to your Lean Library Dashboard
- Your institution's Primo API key
- A Source URL, View More link, and Document link (see below)
Preparing your links
Before setting up Additional Library Search, it will be necessary to create some custom links to add to your settings. The process of doing this is straightforward and detailed below.
Source URL
To construct your Source URL, you will need to know your API key, as well as the tab, search_scope and vid parameters for your library's Primo instance. If you don't know these, they're simple to find out. Visit your library's discovery layer and search for anything at all. Once you have searched, you will find each of the above parameters in the resultant URL.
For more information on these parameters, please consult ExLibris' API documentation.
https://yourlibrarydomain.com/?query=any,contains,[search_query]&tab=[your_tab]&search_scope=[your_scope]&vid=[your_vid]
Note down these values. Insert them into the URL as indicated below (n.b. Customers from Asia should replace the "api-eu" prefix with "api-ap". All other customers should use "api-eu" as their prefix.)
https://api-eu.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo/v1/search/?vid=[your_vid]&tab=[your_tab]&scope=[your_scope]&q=any,contains,[search_query]&apikey=[your_API_key]
View more link
The view more link will direct patrons through to your discovery layer for more information on a given resource. Creating a view more link uses the same parameters. Insert them into the URL as indicated below.
https://[your_library_domain].com/discovery/search?query=any,contains,[search_query]&tab=[your_tab]&search_scope=[your_scope]&vid=[your_vid]
Document link
The document link will allow your patrons to click through to a resource from the Additional Library Search panel. Creating a document link uses the same parameters. Insert them into the URL as indicated below.
https://[your_library_domain].com/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=[document_id]&vid=[your_vid]&lang=en&search_scope=[your_scope]&tab=[your_tab]&query=any,contains,[search_query]
Set-Up
- To begin set-up, log in to your Lean Library Dashboard. Navigate to the Lean Library Futures area and select Additional Library Search.
