As part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility, we’ve improved the colour contrast used throughout the Lean Library browser extension.
These changes help ensure the extension meets the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard for colour contrast, making buttons and controls easier to read for everyone, including users with low vision or colour vision deficiencies.
What’s changing?
New default colour
Lean Library’s default green has been updated to a darker shade (#008063).
If your library is using the default Lean Library branding, buttons and toggles in the extension will automatically use this new colour with white text. This provides sufficient contrast for improved readability and accessibility.
No action is required – the update will be applied automatically.
What if you use custom brand colours?
If your library has configured custom brand colours, your chosen colours will not change.
To improve accessibility, the extension will now automatically choose either black or white button text, depending on which provides the best contrast against your selected background colour.
This means some libraries may notice that button text has changed colour (for example, from black to white). This is expected behaviour and ensures that buttons meet accessibility requirements while preserving your existing branding.
Why are we making this change?
Good colour contrast is essential for making digital content accessible. Higher contrast between text and its background makes buttons and controls easier to read, particularly for users with low vision, colour blindness, or when using devices in bright environments.
These improvements are part of our continued work to enhance the accessibility of the Lean Library extension with the alignment of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA.
