Apart from surfacing digital resources of journals and books, we now support surfacing print books in your library collection. Print Book Alternative allows your patron to be one click away from searching for print book copies in the library.
What is it?
If you have the Print Book Alternative set up, when a book is not available in your library's digital holdings nor at the open access databases, then Lean Library will be looking for print copies at the library before suggesting an interlibrary loan. If the extension was to locate a print book copy available at the library and it is not on loan, then a pop-up would appear like below:
How to enable this setting?
This setting can be enabled in your dashboard. Please go to the dashboard, head to the Alternatives setting, expand Holding Settings, and click on Print Holding Settings.
How to set it up?
There are two steps to get this set up:
-
The first part is to set up your Print Book Alternatives URL. Setting this up enables the extension to send the specific ISBN to your discovery layer so your patrons can be taken to the search result just one click away.
Print Book Alternatives URL Insert your library’s discovery URL into this field. Please replace the search term with "{search_string}" in the URL. For example: https://your_institute.edu/Search/Results?lookfor={search_string}=55LAND_INST:ASLD&offset=0
Note: this URL should include components both before and after the search term
Print book search string This is used to search for multiple ISBNs. It is injected in place of "{search_string}" in the URL above, and is repeated for every ISBN found on the page. For example:
{isbn}+OR+
-
The second part is to set up the holding system. We can currently integrate with ExLibris, WorldCat, and EBSCO EDS. Once integrated, the extension will be able to run a search against your library discovery and surface the Print Book option if your library holds a physical copy. Please fill in the below details on the dashboard:
ExLibris Primo URL For Europe: https://api-eu.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo/v1/search?
