Learn what you can expect from Lean Library and how it will save you time while studying.
Access
Access enables you to easily access and identify the publisher websites and e-resources you can access through your institute’s library. When you browse the internet for an article or you visit a publisher's website while you are off-campus, you might not know which articles/websites you have access to through your library. This is where the Lean Library Access extension identifies if you have access and provides you with a “Get Access” pop-up to give you immediate off-campus access. The browser extension will redirect you to your institute’s login page, where you need to enter your library access credentials to get access.
Assist
Assist allows your institute to communicate with you when you are browsing a website. This means your library can share useful information or announcements with you so you can have a smooth journey researching online.
Alternatives
The Lean Library extension provides legal alternative routes for accessing e-resources when they are not directly accessible through your institution’s library. For online articles, it checks if the resource is available through a different licensed publisher and redirects you if found. For eBooks, it similarly searches for alternative licensed sources. If an article is not licensed but has a legal Open Access version available, the extension will notify you of that option. Additionally, for unlicensed articles not available via Open Access, it can provide links to Interlibrary Loan (ILL) or Document Delivery Services (DDS) if supported by your library.
Workflow for LibGuides:
Your library can support you by adding training content on specific locations to help you with your research. The Workflow for LibGuides feature brings your library’s onboarding training directly to you when you need it as shown below:
Support Features:
You can get further support from your library with the Service Desk, Library FAQs, Surveys and Live Chat features which can be enabled in selected locations. You can find these features when you click on the alarm bell icon in the extension or the Floating Action Button at the corner of your screen.
Other features
Highlight & Search:
With Highlight & Search, you can highlight a word or phrase and search for more details by right-clicking on it. With Lean Library Access, we have connected your library’s database and/or more locations for your Highlight & Search results. Find more details here.
Google Scholar:
With the browser extension enabled and configured by your institution, the Lean Library extension automatically enhances Google Scholar and PubMed searches. It prioritizes your library’s licensed full texts in the search results by recognizing your library affiliation.
Scite.ai:
We’ve partnered with Scite.ai to provide instant information on how a scientific article has been cited, and if it’s been supported or disputed by others. This is available with the extension on academic sites and Google Scholar.
ToC Alert:
When browsing on Google Scholar, you can click the ToC Alert button on the right-hand side next to the article. You will then be subscribed to the “Table of Contents alert” (ToC Alert) feature for a journal and receive an alert when the latest articles are released. Read more here.
