When the article cannot be accessed via your library holdings, the extension will then look for an Open Access version via Unpaywall and CORE.
With Open Access articles provided by Unpaywall, our pop-ups will specify the type of Open Access version in plain text. The possible versions from Unpaywall are "Submitted Version", "Accepted Version" and "Published Version". This version classification is only available for content sourced via Unpaywall.
Below is an explanation of each version:
-
Submitted Version is not yet peer-reviewed.
-
Accepted Version is peer-reviewed, but lacks publisher-specific formatting.
-
Published Version is the version of record.
For example, the below Open Access version provided by our extension via Unpaywall is a "Published Version":
How to customise Open Access with Unpaywall pop-up text?
Change the terminology of the Open Access version
The terminology for these versions can be customised on the dashboard under General Pop-up Settings. For example, you could re-label these as:
"Pre-peer Review" for "Submitted Version"
"Post-peer Review" for "Accepted Version"
"Version of Record"l for "Published Version"
Add instructions to request a version via ILL/DDS
You can also customise Open Access pop-up by adding an option for your patron to request a specific version of the article through your library.
Please see the below example:
When patrons click "Get Article" they can be set up to be redirected to the ILL/DDS form. Patrons can then request a specific version of the article.
